I found the sign-up process super easy and quick. I had a question about the wording in the PDS and sent an email through to the customer service team and they replied within 24 hours with a full answer to my question. We sent in a claim and it was sorted very quickly.
Only thing was that I tried to claim online and tried 3 times- it wouldnt let me fill some of it in. A bit frustrating but I ended up phoning and they were very obliging and told me to email the documents which was easier.

During May of this year, whilst on an organised tour of Israel, my wife Margaret developed a serious case of pneumonia and had to be hospitalised in Jerusalem. We felt really out on a limb as there was relatively little English spoken at the hospital and the up-front costs of hospital admission and ongoing care were quite daunting. Before leaving New Zealand we had the good fortune to take out travel insurance with TINZ and with hindsight we can honestly say it was one of the best moves we have ever made. From the moment we first notified TINZ of our predicament, they gave us assurance that they were able and willing to deal with our situation and kept in constant contact with us by email and telephone.
I would like to make special mention here of our case managers at the Travel Claims Emergency Operations Centre. They dealt with our situation extremely professionally but at the same time retaining that human touch that is so often absent in big business. There were various aspects of our dilemma that required constant re-arrangement, especially those regarding hotel bookings and our Case Managers dealt with these seamlessly, keeping us informed at every stage. Margaret was in hospital for about 3 weeks at the end of which TINZ arranged for her to be repatriated to New Zealand with a nurse escort. They arranged all flights and itineraries and made the return home as comfortable as possible. The accompanying nurse, an Israeli, was extremely experienced and efficient and arranged wheelchair and motorised transport assistance at every airport.Prior to travelling, we advised TINZ of our existing medical conditions and history and paid the extra premium requested. Had we not done so, we would have been in all sorts of trouble and would strongly urge readers of this review to disclose all medical matters in advance. Margaret’s ongoing recovery is now nearing completion and we are thankful to TINZ for the professional manner in which they exercised their duty of care over us. We shall always be grateful to our case managers for looking after us across the miles at a time when our morale was very low and our future very uncertain. Needless to say we have no hesitation in recommending TINZ – indeed we have already done so to all our friends and family.

I thought the process of arranging insurance was pretty slick and fairly-priced. It was well-organised and simple. Great! or so I thought. When I came to try and make a claim, I found to my horror that medical costs in NZ are NOT covered, "because it's a domestic policy." Hello? I booked a NZ snow holiday with appropriate, additional snow insurance. TINZ happily took the extra money, but at no time was it made clear that this wouldn't include medical cover! Seriously unimpressed.
I also wanted to make a claim for an item that had been lost, but was told I would need written evidence that I'd spoken to the hotel about the loss. Like we would have such a thing!
Needless to say, I will be looking elsewhere, next time I need travel / holiday insurance. And I'll be checking the policy details, a lot more closely.

Took multiple emails and phone calls to sort out. Pleasant staff but unnecessarily complicated process. Took ages and ages even to spell names correctly on policies.

No complaints regarding the online application which was easy to follow and straight forward. Having insurance gives you peace of mind every time you're away from home.

We made use of the an Already Overseas option - there are limited companies that provide this service - so we were very happy that TINZ provides this option with good coverage.
However we made a couple of medical claims and to be honest - everything about the claim process was bad:
- The Claims team does not communicate with the Operations Center Team so our needing to multiple emails, phone calls, and documentation all over the same claim was frustrating.
- Every time you make contact, there is a max 10 day response time... and they make sure they use the maximum time possible.
- We made a minor medical claim (~NZ$100) but it was if we were asking for 100,000 dollars. Almost not worth the effort really - which I think they secretly hope you do give up.
- When they realised we likely needed a second medical opinion (just another blood test, max extra ~NZ$100), the response was to tell us to hop on a plane back to NZ, use our own return ticket, cut our holiday short by 3 months, plus if we didn't do this, our entire travel insurance policy would become invalid (look out for that tiny clause in conditions).
Never use them again... there are better options and companies available. Thanks but no thanks TINZ.

This is the first time we have used TINZ and have found the process extremely easy. Getting the insurance cover was very straight forward. We unfortunately had to make a claim however the process again was very easy and straight forward and very quick. Will certainly being using TINZ again and will recommend wherever we can.
